Phonetic Transcription

Phonetic transcription programs involve the process of taking a spoken word and breaking it down into a description of actual way it is pronounced. This is useful for the study of languages and for cross-cultural communication.

While there is a difference between broad phonetic transcription and narrow phonetic transcription, we focus on general transcription while incorporating some aspects of phonetic transcription programs. Our phonetic transcription is marking pronunciations on words that we may not be able to accurately capture. Phonetic transcription programs use words such as names, places, or terminology that is familiar to the speaker or client, but that we are not intimately aware of. As a service to our clients we will put a phonetic transcription of any words that we can hear, but not identify with 100% accuracy.

Phonetic transcription programs like ours will note noted specific words in your transcript so that you can quickly and easily go through your document to correct the spelling (should you happen to know it). We find that by offering phonetic transcription services for hard to hear words, our clients receive a more accurate transcript. Other phonetic transcription programs break down every single word by pronunciation. Because we only do partial phonetic transcription, we are different than full blown phonetic transcription programs or service.
