LOST Candidate Wall Unveiled

Last August, over 1000 lots of props from the hit ABC series LOST were auctioned off to memorabilia collectors and fans of the show. Auction items included a Volkswagen van, pieces of airplane wreckage, and a copy of the pilot script that was signed by show co-creators J. J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof. JR Wurster, founder and CEO of Verbal Ink, was one of the auction attendees. While most of his purchases that evening could be taken back to Verbal Ink’s headquarters by car, one item required substantially more work: an eighteen foot wide, nine foot tall cave wall.

The cave wall features the names and numbers of people that were considered candidates for the island. This may not mean much to people that never watched the show, but dedicated LOST fans understand the crucial role that the wall played in the sixth and final season. Says Mr. Wurster, “In one sense, the wall represented the importance of finding the right person for the right job. One of the many amazing themes of this show was the sense of destiny that each person has and the self-imposed barriers they often have to accept in order to achieve that destiny.”

Following months of planning and preparation, the wall was installed at Verbal Ink’s Santa Monica office last week. The delivery and installation process took several hours to complete, with a large team of movers, glassworkers to remove the office doors and window panels, and a 35 ton crane with a 94 foot boom. “Naturally, we wanted to preserve the significance of what this piece of LOST history represents, so we left the actual wall itself untouched. For the unfinished side, we had dry erase and cork boards custom-installed.
